Egypt's port authority has agreed to a deal with Swiss logistics company Medlog to finance, design and operate a 250-acre dry port and logistics hub in the 10th of Ramadan City.
According to Port News Egypt, the site will be divided into two sections, with 130 acres set aside for the dry port, and the remaining 120 acres for the logistics area. The project will include improved road and rail networks designed to link Egypt's industrial and agricultural supply chains to major ports along the Red Sea and Mediterranean, as part of a larger initiative to have the country eventually become a prominent regional transport and logistics hub,
Egypt currently has 22 dry ports and logistic zones, and has a goal to increase that to 32. Similar projects are already underway in other cities, including Sadat, New Damietta, New Fayoum and Beni Suef. Situated just outside of Cairo, 10th of Ramadan City is considered to be one of Egypt's most industrialized communities, and is home to thousands of textile, food processing and pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities.
